About Dr. Charles Griffen

Charles N. Griffen, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Griffen attended Villanova University, where he graduated with a B. S. degree in biology. He completed his doctorate in optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA and then completed a residency in Primary Care Optometry at The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a past president of the Chester-Delaware Optometric Society and recipient of the George Gottschalk Memorial Award for volunteer contributions to the Pennsylvania Optometric Association.

Dr. Griffen started his private practice in Berwyn in 1986. In 1996 he moved his office to the current location. He enjoys helping patients of all ages and with all types of eye and vision problems. Ten years ago he became a preceptor for the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and really enjoys working with the student externs. He is also the cofounder of the Optometric Fly Fishers, which creates programs that combine continuing education with fly fishing adventures.

Dr. Griffen and his wife Diana enjoy visiting with their 3 grown children. They also enjoy biking, hiking, camping and traveling. Dr. Griffen is on the board of the Valley Forge Chapter of Trout Unlimited, where he organizes fishing trips and arranges for speakers at the monthly meetings. In 2021 he became a licensed Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Guide.
